Afrobeats Dance

Afrobeats Dance is a unique fusion of traditional and modern-day African-derived movements. Students will learn popular Afrobeat moves and classic West African steps from dances like Kuku, Manjani, and Sunu. AfroFusion will help dancers release and express movement without a rigid  “technique” form. The movement is wholesome and expressive and can be uniquely developed to show students’ character through dance. This dance style will not only pique students’ interest, but it will also be educational. Students will learn how trendy ‘Tik Tok’ moves were derived from traditional dances in different regions of Africa, their practices behind the dances, and the influence of geographical location. On Top of that, the sensational rhythms created by Fela Kuti, the original Afrobeat ‘King’, and how have inspired today’s music!

Amanda is a born and raised New yorker! She began dancing at the age of 8 and hasn’t stopped since then! Studying at the Alvin Ailey school and attending Professional Performing Arts School helped her build her love for African based dance which has helped her to perform with Djoniba and Mfouambila dance companies all the way to an all female company named EVA in Saigon,Vietnam. Throughout her travels in SouthEast Asia Amanda was invited to perform in over three Latin Dance Festivals where she performed Samba, Afrobeats, and Traditional African dances. Sharing african dance in Asia was extremely important for Amanda because of her desire to spread black culture and awareness.
