Shakira Wilson is Vice President of Engineering and Planning in Electric Operations. She leads a team of approximately 950 employees responsible for the design, performance, and operation of electric distribution facilities serving 3.6 million customers in New York City and Westchester County. She manages an annual capital budget of approximately $1.3 billion.
Shakira joined Con Edison in 2001 as a management intern. She has over twenty-three years of experience in construction, operations, auditing, and project management. Shakira was previously the Vice President of Bronx & Westchester Electric Operations responsible for providing safe and reliable electric service in Bronx and Westchester counties. She also served as the General Manager in Transmission Operations, responsible for the construction, repair, and maintenance activities on the overhead and underground transmission system.
Shakira served as a regional incident commander for the NYS contingent during the Puerto Rico restoration effort. She has held various leadership positions during multiple system events including Hurricane Isaias.
Shakira is a member of the Corporate DE&I Council and the executive sponsor for the Electric Operations DE&I efforts and the Women of Electric Operations initiatives. She is the co-chair of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Distribution Forum.She serves on the board of Westchester County’s Groundwork Hudson Valley and is the chair of the Governance Committee.
She thoroughly enjoys mentoring and sharing her experiences while also learning from others. Shakira helps employees understand both the challenges they will face in the workplace as well as the intrinsic rewards associated with accomplishing important, meaningful work.
Shakira holds a B.A. in Communications from the College of Mount Saint Vincent and an MBA from the State University of New York in Oswego. She is a recipient of Westchester Business Council’s 40 Under 40 Award. Shakira is a native to Westchester County and currently resides in Cortlandt Manor with her husband, 22-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter.
