Dear NECS Community,
Our world and immediate communities have already been greatly affected by the rapidly evolving health crisis (COVID-19). As a result—following CDC advice—NECS has suspended all of its in-person spring programs and will be transitioning our entire class catalog online.
The need for creative and uplifting educational programming in our community continues. In this time of stress and isolation under self-quarantine, the need becomes greater; parents are searching for activities to keep their children engaged and in high spirits; our teaching artists—most of whom rely on contract income and are living from paycheck to paycheck—still need to support their families.
Our hearts weigh heavy with the knowledge that in the face of possible economic recession, many of the families that we at NECS serve are among the most vulnerable to be impacted by income instability and unemployment. We have established an emergency fundraising campaign to raise 20K, so that we can continue to serve our community, and we need your assistance to reach this goal.
- Funds raised from NECS’s emergency fundraising campaign will help us:
- Offer online classes: creative writing, playwriting, songwriting, monologue workshop, music production, storytelling, DIY projects, visual art and more
- Acquire Chromebooks and establish a lending library for low-income students without laptops
- Pay teaching artists who have had programs unexpectedly canceled
- Produce free and inspirational artistic content
- Provide weekly parenting workshops and support
- Aid our operations
Our virtual classes will be available to attend remotely as early as March 30, and they will be offered free of charge. New teachers have been able to come on board to pioneer new projects. We will be setting up weekly support groups for parents. Our Girls’ Leadership and Empowerment Club’s virtual meet up kicked off Friday, March, 20th and will meet every week until further notice.
We understand that many people are under stress, and the demand for funding is rising. If you are in a position that allows you to donate, please consider making a donation to NECS. If you can pledge to contribute $10, $20 or even $50 per month, please consider becoming a sustaining monthly donor. We welcome whatever contribution you can make with gratitude! If you are unable to donate, please share our page with your friends, family members, and coworkers.
Community engagement is our biggest ally. Together, through collaborative and innovative action, we can continue to deliver on our promise of empowering young people to explore their innate capabilities and engage in social action.
Thank you for your continued support and please be safe.
Sincerely,
Ridvan Foxhall
