Learn the fundamentals of West African Dance with live drumming. This is an excellent opportunity for community members to gather, dance, and get to know one another. Great exercise too!
NECS partners with 100cameras to provide an 8-week photography workshop. This program is designed to inspire young people to “exercise their eye” with the camera.
EmpowerED supports high-school-aged young women in developing the knowledge, skills, and capacities to develop strong and healthy identities; to engage in healthy interpersonal relationships; and to be champions of their own and others’ equality, respect, and safety as leaders in their communities.
Program dedicated to inspire children and youth to become social agents by engaging with the magic of theatre. We maintain a commitment to develop in each child a keen sense of moral leadership alongside their artistic achievements.
In this 8-week introductory class, students will learn techniques that will enable them to capture the essence of the person they are photographing.
Students will learn how to conceptualize, shoot and edit a video project as they shoot two original projects and pre-production planning–scripting, storyboarding to production–directing skills, shooting, interviewing, crew protocols to post-production–editing on Adobe Premiere, etc.
Trusting one’s own voice to sing out loud, understanding the power of words through song, encouraging expressing oneself with words from the soul. Understanding teamwork.
AfroFusion Dance is a unique blend of traditional and modern day African derived movement. Students will learn popular Afrobeats moves and classic West African steps from dances like Kuku, Manjani, and Sunu.
This youth-led program, focusing on healthy self-esteem and moral leadership, provides a safe space for young girls to learn about issues of concern to girls, explore inspiring literature, and creative expression through the arts.

We will provide a safe space for young men to come together and learn about issues of concern to boys through social interaction, topic discussions, field trips, and fitness at the Be First Boxing Gym.
During this 10-week workshop, students will be creative and make dialogue prompts and improv to create an act.
NECS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates with limited resources, relying on support from the community to sustain our programming. Because we know there are families in need, we offer a sliding scale for program fees. While we don’t require supporting documents to demonstrate financial hardship, we do ask that families pay as much as they can afford. This is what enables us to offer our programs to families in more difficult financial situations.
NECS’ program fees help to cover the expenses of running the program and allow us to provide scholarships and sliding scale fees. We will not be able to offer honor-based sliding scale discounts to those in need if those who can afford the fee choose to pay a discounted amount. When registering for a program, please select the highest fee your family can afford.
